Changes in Perceived Stress and Recovery During Heavy Training in Highly Trained Male Rowers

چکیده
The aims were to assess (a) the usefulness of RESTQ-Sport in the process of training monitoring and (b) whether a change in psychological parameters is refl ected by similar changes in specifi c biochemical parameters. The high volume training period, in general, caused increases in stress scales and decreases in recovery scales of the RESTQ-Sport, while during recovery period, stress levels declined. Cortisol was not changed during the study period, but signifi cant increases in creatine kinase activity were found during the high training period compared to reference period. The results of the present study demonstrate that changes in training volume were refl ected by changes in the RESTQ-Sport scales. A close relationship was found between cortisol and creatine kinase activity and subjective ratings of stress and recovery.

Sweat rate of highly trained junior rowers during a session of low intensity endurance training
Background Hypohydration is associated with impaired endurance performance and increased heat stress. Therefore, rehydration after exercise needs to be sufficient. However, several athletes tend to hypohydrate especially during training camps. To allow exact quantification of necessary rehydration volume in order to prevent hypohydration, this study aimed to determine the sweat rate of highly t...
متن کاملIndirect Methods of Assessing Maximal Oxygen Uptake in Rowers: Practical Implications for Evaluating Physical Fitness in a Training Cycle
The aim of the study was to evaluate the usefulness of indirect methods of assessment of VO2max for estimation of physical capacity of trained male and female rowers during a training cycle. A group of 8 female and 14 male rowers performed the maximal intensity test simulating the regatta distance (a 2 km test) and a submaximal incremental exercise test on a rowing ergometer. The suitability of...
متن کاملChanges in stress and recovery in elite rowers during preparation for the Olympic Games.
PURPOSE The purpose was to investigate changes in stress and recovery during preparation for the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games. METHODS Eleven elite rowers of the German National Rowing Team completed four times the Recovery-Stress-Questionnaire for Athletes (RESTQ-Sport). The eight rowers who competed at the Olympic Games filled out the RESTQ-Sport a fifth time, 2 d before the preliminaries. ...
متن کاملThe effects of high-intensity interval training in well-trained rowers.
PURPOSE Several recent studies have reported substantial performance and physiological gains in well-trained endurance runners, swimmers, and cyclists following a period of high-intensity interval training (HIT). The aim of the current study was to compare traditional rowing training (CT) to HIT in well-trained rowers. METHODS Subjects included 5 male and 5 female rowers (mean +/- SD; age = 1...
متن کاملCapturing effort and recovery: reactive and recuperative cortisol responses to competition in well-trained rowers
Background/aim It is well known that physical strain is associated with increased cortisol production. And although mental stress elevates cortisol concentrations as well, little is known of the independent and/or combined effects of both on the secretion of cortisol. Aim of the study was to investigate the day-to-day cortisol dynamics associated with training, performance and recuperation and ...
